Shawnimals DIY Plushforms @ NYCC

The con’s been over for 2 days, but the posts keep on comin’! A while back we reported on the DIY Shawnimals Plushforms back in late March, and we finally got to see them up close and in person at the New York Comic Con. There were even a few custom Plushforms on display and I was seriously blown away by what people were doing with these things!
First off, I totally had the idea for DIY plush back when my girlfriend was making those Fez plushies, but since I’m too lazy to turn half my ideas into reality, I figured I’d wait for someone else to take care of it.
Enter Shawn Smith, creator of Shawnimals. He’s taken the likeness of his popular Wee Ninja and turned it into a DIY platform toy. At first, I was a tad skeptical about how awesome a DIY plush could be. I guess I thought it would only be fun for people who can sew, but when I saw the kickass customs at the Shawnimals booth, I realized just how awesome it is.
The first thing I noticed was how soft they are. They almost feel silky. Some of the customs even felt soft with paint on them, which I didn’t expect. There was also a display Plushform showing off how smoothly pens and pencils looked after being applied. I’m pumped to get one, and at only $20 it’s not bad at all.
It’s official: plush is the new vinyl.

No way! I’m bringing it back!
“x is the new y” is the new “that’s soooo last year”. Besides, LSSU was sooo the new lame last summer.
